Michael Washington had 24 points and 11 rebounds, holding his own against Oklahoma's Blake Griffin, and Arkansas handed the fourth-ranked Sooners their first loss of the season, 96-88, last night in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Razorbacks (10-1) led by 25 points in the second half before the Sooners nearly pulled off a sensational rally. Oklahoma (12-1) cut the margin to 81-77, but Washington scored Arkansas' next seven points to enable the Hogs to hold on.

Willie Warren scored 35 points for the Sooners, while Griffin had 21 points.

Illinois 71, Purdue 67 -Mike Tisdale scored 18 points as the Fighting Illini (13-1) defeated the No. 9 Boilermakers (11-3) in overtime in the Big Ten opener for both teams in West Lafayette, Ind.

Mike Davis scored 12 points, Trent Meacham added 11 and Demetri McCamey had 10 as the Illinois won its seventh straight.

E'Twaun Moore scored 17 points and JaJuan Johnson had 16 points and 15 rebounds for Purdue, which had won its previous six games.

Syracuse 100, Seton Hall 76 - Eric Devendorf and Andy Rautins both hit a trio of three-pointers in a six-minute span to key a stirring first-half surge, and the 13th-ranked Orange (13-1) beat the Pirates (9-4) in the Big East opener for both teams in Syracuse, N.Y.

Wake Forest 83, Radford 61 - Jeff Teague scored 11 of his 19 points in the second half, and the No. 6 Demon Deacons (12-0) topped the Highlanders (4-9) in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Clemson 98, South Carolina 87 - Terrence Oglesby had six three-pointers and scored a career-high 25 points as the No. 20 Tigers (13-0) beat the Gamecocks (9-2) in Columbia, S.C.

Butler 72, UAB 68 - Freshman Shelvin Mack made five three-pointers in the first seven minutes of the second half to rally the No. 25 Bulldogs (11-1) from an 11-point deficit to a victory over the Blazers (8-5) in Indianapolis.

Florida 78, Stetson 57 - Nick Calathes scored 23 points as the Gators (11-2) beat the Hatters (5-5) in Gainesville, Fla.

Houston 80, Massachusetts 54 - Qa'rraan Calhoun scored 26 points to help the Cougars (8-2) past the Minutemen (5-7) in Houston.
