Villanova head coach Jay Wright may reach out to a one-time Wildcat basketball star to fill the latest vacancy on his staff.
Sources have confirmed that Chris Walker, an outstanding point guard for the Wildcats from 1988 through 1992, is the top candidate to replace Pat Chambers as the lead assistant to Wright.
Chambers left Villanova right after the Wildcats returned from the NCAA Final Four to accept the head coaching job at Boston University.
Wright could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Walker has spent the last two seasons as an assistant at New Mexico under Steve Alford.
He served the 2000-01 season as an assistant at Villanova under Steve Lappas. He then followed Lappas to Massachusetts and spent three seasons there, taking a year off in 2004 to go into private business.
Walker led the Wildcats in assists for three seasons and finished with 404 for his career. He made the All-Big Five team in 1990.
On the radio front, Villanova and 950-ESPN have extended their partnership through 2012.
