Lucky Jim wins Maxie Lee at Harrah's Chester

Lucky Jim won the $250,000 Maxie Lee Memorial Trot for open trotters yesterday at Harrah's Chester with a 2-length victory over Michaelrowyourboat. Prayer I Am was third.

The winning time was 1:52.3.

After going winless in nine starts last year as a 3-year-old, Lucky Jim improved to 12-for-12 this year and is being pointed toward the Titan Cup at the Meadowlands (June 26 eliminations; July 4 final).

"He was gelded and turned out, so I guess he just grew up and matured," trainer Julie Miller said.

Lucky Jim took the lead just before the half-mile mark and held it from there, shaking off a late charge from Michaelrowyourboat, with driver Jimmy Smith.

"He didn't really like the track and he swiveled a bit in the first turn," driver Andy Miller said. "But he's a good horse. He likes to be a racehorse and he likes his work." *
