It took overtime, but Philadelphia's Lamar Richards gutted out a win in the second day of preliminary-round junior bouts at the USA Boxing Nationals in Denver.

Richards (176 pounds) won a slugfest against San Diego's Robert Coons, 14-10, after taking a 6-6 stalemate into extra time.

Richards was the only Philadelphian to win in the afternoon sessions as Tymir Floyd (101) dropped an 8-7 decision to Denver's Ever Rodriguez in another junior bout. In the senior division, William Bentley (112) lost by walkover to Cory Pescado-Altura, of Hawaii, while Paul Koon (201) lost a 19-15 decision to Frederick Samuels of East Meadow, N.Y.

The evening session ended too late for this edition, but featured Philly's lone female contender, Rasheda Horne (132) competing in the women's open division.
