Pennsville football coach steps aside
Veteran Pennsville football coach John Cooksey has stepped down, but he doesn't want to leave the program. According to athletic director Jamey Thomas, Cooksey didn't resign. He just didn't reapply for the head coaching job. Cooksey, who has expressed an interest in remaining as an assistant, just completed his 12th season. The Eagles finished with a .500 or better record for the third straight year.

Pennsville last had three straight .500 or better records from 1984 to 1986. This past season, the Eagles went 6-4 and earned a berth in the South Jersey Group 1 playoffs. A new head coach is expected to be named later this month.
