Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf has surrendered to Texas authorities to face burglary and drug-related charges.

Leaf's attorney, Bill Kelly, says Leaf turned himself in yesterday at the Randall County Jail in Canyon, where the former No. 2 pick was indicted in May after coaching quarterbacks at West Texas A & M for three seasons. Kelly says Leaf posted $15,000 bail and headed back to Washington state.

Leaf faces one count of burglary and eight drug-related counts associated with the painkiller Hydrocodone. He was arrested Wednesday in Washington state after entering the U.S. from Canada. He posted bond there and flew to Texas.

San Diego drafted Leaf out of Washington State in 1998 and the Chargers released him after three disastrous seasons. He played part of 1 year for the Dallas Cowboys.

Leaf also was the golf coach at West Texas A & M before resigning in November amid a drug investigation.

He faces one count of burglary to a habitation, a second-degree felony, seven counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and one count of delivery of a simulated controlled substance. Authorities allege he broke into the apartment of an injured football player and took Hydrocodone.

Leaf had 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions during a 4-year NFL career marred by outbursts directed at team executives, fans and reporters.

* Former NFL and Miami Hurricanes star quarterback Bernie Kosar has filed for bankruptcy protection in Miami.

Kosar's Chapter 11 filing yesterday lists assets between $1 million and $10 million and liabilities of between $10 million and $50 million.

Kosar owes almost $1.5 million in "unsecured debt" to the Cleveland Browns, who he played for from 1985 to 1993. Kosar also owes his ex-wife Babette $3 million and $725,000 (from a personal loan) to the owner of the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League. The 45-year-old Kosar got divorced in 2007 and last year saw his steakhouse go out of business.

Kosar, who also played for Dallas and Miami, retired from the NFL in 1996. *
