WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Winless Penn suffered another defeat Saturday night, falling to Monmouth, 80-75, at the Hawks' Multipurpose Activity Center.
The Quakers are 0-7 after a second-half rally fell short.
Travis Taylor scored 28 points on 12-for-14 shooting from the field for Monmouth (3-7), which snapped a four-game losing streak. The Hawks' Whitney Coleman scored 20 points and dealt eight assists.
A jumper by Taylor gave the Hawks a 58-48 lead with 13 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the game, but Penn went on an 11-2 run to cut its deficit to 60-59 with 10:53 left.
The Quakers tied the score at 73 with two free throws from Zach Rosen with 2:13 remaining. But Penn was unable to take the lead and was outscored, 7-2, in the final two minutes.
"Defensively, we turned things around in the second half," Penn coach Glenn Miller said. "We've just got to get better. We're 0 and seven, and we have to look for the positives."
Rosen led Penn with 23 points, while Mike Howlett chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds.
