Prospal sidelined

Vinny Prospal, a top-line forward for the New York Rangers, is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery that will keep him out for at least 10 days, and maybe up to three weeks.

Prospal, 34, was injured Saturday night in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. The surgery took place yesterday morning.

In 38 games this season, while playing alongside the NHL's goal leader, Marian Gaborik, the left winger has eight goals and 32 points. His 24 assists are tops on the Rangers and 19th best in the league.

Prospal, who had two stints with the Flyers (1996-98, 2008), wasn't limited by the injury Saturday night, logging 22 minutes, 19 seconds of action.

Capitals make trade

Washington acquired left winger Jason Chimera from Columbus in a trade for right winger Chris Clark and defenseman Milan Jurcina.

Chimera, 30, has eight goals and nine assists this season, along with 47 penalty minutes - more than anyone on Washington's roster.

Clark, 33, was in his fifth year with the Capitals, his fourth as the team's captain. He has four goals and 11 assists this season. Jurcina, 26, was in his fourth season with Washington and part of a crowded group of defensemen.
