The 76ers do not plan to contact Byron Scott regarding the team's coaching vacancy, according to a source close to the situation.
Two weeks into their search, the Sixers have formally interviewed at least two candidates, scheduled an interview with a third, and compiled a list of prospective coaches they plan to contact.
Two names on that "yet to contact" list had been former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell and Scott, the former New Orleans Hornets coach.
According to one NBA source, Sixers president and general manager Ed Stefanski has yet to schedule an interview with Mitchell, but the source said that Mitchell's camp feels confident an official interview is on the horizon.
A different NBA source confirmed that Scott would have been interested in interviewing for the position, if he'd been given the opportunity.
Scott, who coached the New Jersey Nets while Stefanski was general manager there, was fired as Hornets coach midway through the 2009-10 season.
Scott, 49, has a career NBA coaching record of 352-355.
Stefanski fired coach Eddie Jordan on April 15, less than 24 hours after the Sixers' ended their season with a record of 27-55. Since then, the team is known to have interviewed only two candidates: former NBA coach Doug Collins and former Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson.
On Monday, Stefanski, who has been joined in the interview process by assistant general manager Tony DiLeo and team consultant Gene Shue, will interview Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach Monty Williams.
The Sixers' coaching vacancy is one of a handful around the NBA, including the Hornets, the Nets, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Chicago Bulls.
The Sixers are expected to continue their coaching search until at least the latter rounds of the NBA playoffs, when they will likely contact a couple of assistant coaches who are involved in the postseason, such as the Boston Celtics' Tom Thibodeau, the San Antonio Spurs' Mike Budenholzer, and the Dallas Mavericks' Dwane Casey.
