Devon Horse Show begins

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair opens its 11-day run Thursday. The annual event features one of the greatest variety of breeds and disciplines of any horse show in the country.

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair opens its 11-day run Thursday. The annual event features one of the greatest variety of breeds and disciplines of any horse show in the country.

The $100,000 Grand Prix will be held next Thursday at 8 p.m., followed by the $20,000 Gambler's Choice May 4 and the $50,000 Idle Dice Open Jumper Stakes on May 5.

A number of previous champions will return, including Laura Chapot, who has ridden the Open Jumper Champions and has been Leading Open Jumper Rider for three of the last five years; Scott Stewart, who has had a strangle hold on Leading Hunter Rider for the last six years; Philip Richter, last year's Amateur Owner Jumper Champion; Reed Kessler, Leading Junior Jumper Rider; and Jessica Springsteen, last year's Junior Hunter Champion, who will show in Junior Jumpers this year. - Inquirer Staff
