Quenneville recalls rough nights in Philly

Joel Quenneville has spent his entire coaching career guiding Western Conference teams, so his Wachovia Center experience is limited. In 13 seasons as a player, however, he surely remembers some infamous trips to the Spectrum.

Joel Quenneville has spent his entire coaching career guiding Western Conference teams, so his Wachovia Center experience is limited. In 13 seasons as a player, however, he surely remembers some infamous trips to the Spectrum.

"They had a lot of guys that some nights, depending on the score, [games] would get ugly," Quenneville said. "It got ugly a few times. But back in the day, there were a lot of long nights. When I say long nights, there could have been five-on-fives [fights] or bench-clearing brawls, but that's a thing of the past."

Quenneville was part of a 1983 trade from New Jersey to Calgary that involved Mel Bridgman, a former Flyers captain. A defenseman, Quenneville spent most of his career in Hartford.

He started as a coach in 1997 and in 13 seasons with St. Louis, Colorado and Chicago, Quenneville's teams are only 2-6 at the Wachovia Center.
