Wings general manager and head coach Dave Huntley has been dismissed, the team announced yesterday.

Huntley was hired in 2008 as the coach and was named general manager before this season. Huntley also served as the Wings' first GM in 1987-88. Assistants Chris Sanderson and John Tucker also were let go.

"The decision to change directions and relieve Dave Huntley as general manger and head coach of the Wings was a very difficult one for the ownership group," team president and owner Russ Cline said in a statement. "No one has worked harder or been more loyal than Dave and his staff. He is a personal friend, a gentleman and a brilliant lacrosse mind. He will continue to be a leader in this sport."

Huntley, who coaches the Canadian National Field Lacrosse Team and the Toronto Nationals, of Major League Lacrosse, had a 22-26 overall record with the Wings, including 5-11 this season. The team qualified for the playoffs once, losing to Buffalo in the first round in 2008. *
