Penn State has been invited to the Outback Bowl and will take on Florida in the Jan. 1 game at Tampa, Fla.
The Nittany Lions (7-5) will play in their 37th bowl game under Joe Paterno, and their 25th on New Year's Day. Paterno is the all-time leader in bowl appearances and victories (24), and is 17-7 on Jan. 1.
The Lions, who are making their fourth Outback Bowl appearance and first since 2007, will take on a Florida team that also finished 7-5 and has earned a bowl bid for the 20th straight season. The matchup of Paterno and Gators coach Urban Meyer should attract national interest.
Penn State and Florida have met twice before. The Lions lost, 17-7, in the 1962 Gator Bowl and were defeated, 21-6, in the 1998 Citrus Bowl.
