Pa. Girls: Friends' Central captures league lacrosse title

Friends' Central successfully defended its Friends Schools League lacrosse title on Friday, but this one proved considerably more difficult than the last.

The host Phoenix finished their league season unbeaten (8-0-1) with a 9-7 win over Germantown Friends, 363 days after scoring a 13-2 win over the Tigers in last year's title game. They are now 11-6-1 overall.

Ashley Tedesco and Emma Dahle scored four goals apiece to lead the Tigers, both registering a hat trick by halftime.

University of Pennsylvania-bound Iris Williamson, only a junior, led Germantown Friends with five goals.

Inter-Ac. Lauren Wilcox's fourth goal of the game, on a one-on-one move in front of the net, broke a tie and gave Agnes Irwin a 17-16 win at Germantown Academy. Teammate Campbell Corchiere's five goals led the Owls.

At Frankford, Rachel Logan assisted on two of the goals as Masterman scored all of its goals in the first half and finished with a 3-2 Public League quarterfinal win over Girls High. Rachel Hampton, Julia Magowan, and Alyssa Lott scored for the Blue Dragons (6-7-1).

In other quarterfinals:

Science Leadership's unbeaten run ended as Franklin Towne Charter took control early and rolled to a 7-1 win in a game at Southern. The Coyotes (13-2-1) led, 4-0, at the half. They got three goals from Sarah Rodgers.

At Southern, Meghan Wadlinger had a pair of goals as top-seeded Central overwhelmed rival Northeast, 6-0.

At Frankford, Alex Steward's second goal of the game, on a penalty kick in overtime, gave Philadelphia Academy Charter a 3-2 win over rival Washington.

Katie Wenger pitched a one-hitter as Agnes Irwin coasted past Penn Charter, 8-1, for the Inter-Ac League title. It was the second outright title in a row for the Owls (11-1, 10-1), who shared the title the two prior seasons. Skylar Frederick went 2 for 4.

Friends Schools. In a league semifinal, Olivia Powers got the win on the mound as visiting Shipley beat Friends' Central, 7-3. Powers pitched the first five innings, and Lauren Touey pitched the final two, combining on a three-hitter.
