withdrew from the Tampa Bay Rays managerial search, according to reports.

Ibanez, 42, had been scheduled to meet with Rays officials on Thursday. The remaining finalists are Royals bench coach Don Wakamatsu, the former Mariners manager, and Indians bullpen coach Kevin Cash. The team is expected to name a manager to replace Joe Maddon on Friday.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL Reserve guard Tim Quarterman scored 21 points, and Josh Gray made the game-winning layup with 7.4 seconds left to help visiting Louisiana State (6-2) upset No. 16 West Virginia (7-1), 74-73.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL After working though a buyout issue, Jim McElwain is leaving Colorado State to become Florida's next head coach. Florida said McElwain agreed to a six-year deal that will average $3.5 million annually.

Nebraska hired Oregon State's Mike Riley as its new football coach, replacing the fired Bo Pelini. Riley has spent 14 seasons over two tenures at Oregon State, leading the Beavers to 93 wins and a 6-2 record in bowl games.

The Pac-12 will have the spotlight to itself Friday night when No. 3 Oregon (11-1) and No. 8 Arizona (10-2) meet in the conference championship game at sparkling Levi's Stadium. The Ducks are all but guaranteed a spot in the four-team College Football Playoff with a win, and the selection committee could have a hard time keeping Arizona out if the Wildcats upset Oregon for the second time this season.

COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY West Chester fell to Millersville, 2-1, in overtime in the NCAA Division II semifinals in Louisville, Ky. Rachal Toppi (Glassboro) scored for top-ranked West Chester (18-3).

GOLF Ginger Howard, a former Delaware County resident, shot a 5-over-par 77 to fall into a tie for 80th place after two rounds of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament Finals at Daytona Beach, Fla. Howard posted a 36-hole score of 3-over 147, 3 shots out of 45th place, the last qualifying spot. Brittany Benvenuto of Langhorne fired a 74 for a 149, tied for 103d.
