Only 1 Eagle makes NFL's Top 100 list, Ex-Patriot Hernandez at No. 77

Two guys with local ties make the Top 20 (for other teams).

The NFL Network wrapped up its Top 100 Players of 2013 series on Thursday night, and its almost complete shunning of the Philadelphia Eagles is now history.

Perhaps deservedly so, after a 4-12 season that got head coach Andy Reid fired.

Only one Eagles player made the list, running back LeSean McCoy at No. 45.

That's way down from 2012, when the list included seven players: McCoy at No. 18, tackle Jason Peters at 42, defensive ends Jason Babin and Trent Cole at 44 and 57, quarterback Michael Vick at 70, wideout DeSean Jackson at 71, and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha at 79.

Peters had a good excuse: He missed last season because of a twice-ruptured Achilles tendon. Babin, though, was cut in November, and Asomugha was released after a disappointing season and signed with the 49ers.

Making the Top 20 were two quarterbacks with local connections. The Atlanta Falcons' Matt Ryan, who played for William Penn Charter in Philadelphia, was ranked 17th, while Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco of Audubon High, the University of Delaware and the Baltimore Ravens, was No. 19.

Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson was No. 1, followed, in descending order, by Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and Houston Texas defensive end J.J Watt.

And look who finished at No. 77, but is unlikely to make the list next year: New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who was arrested Wednesday and charged with the murder of  the slaying of Boston semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.
