‘Hacks’ star and Eagles fan Hannah Einbinder is a proud member of a cult

Between competitive cheerleading, improv, or being a Philadelphia Eagles fan, there’s one that’s similar to a cult.

Or so says Hacks star and Emmy-winning actor Hannah Einbinder.

Funnily enough, it involves pom poms, endless cheering, and may cause an emotionallycharged scene in the middle of a sports bar.

For folks who have followed the third-generation Angeleno, it’s easy to guess what she is referring to.

“It’s certainly the last one there,” Einbinder said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone editor and critic David Fear. “I should have said I am in a cult.”

A kelly green cult at that.

The Hacks star sat down with the legacy publication at SXSW to promote the premiere of her film, Seekers of Infinite Love.

The new comedy, starring Einbinder, Justin Theroux, John Reynolds, and Griffin Gluck, follows three estranged siblings who reunite for a road trip to Kentucky after their youngest sister joins a doomsday cult.

During the interview, Fear asked Einbinder the all-important question: “Do you feel you have the type of personality that would make you susceptible to being recruited into a cult?”

With no hesitation, Einbinder said, “I do. I’m drawn to charisma. And I do like to feel like a part of a team.”

She pointed to her years being the captain of her high school cheerleading team, but Einbinder’s connection to Eagles fandom is even more interesting.

Einbinder didn’t grow up in Philly, nor does she live in our beloved city. She is the daughter of original Saturday Night Live cast member Laraine Newman and actor and writer Chad Einbinder, who was born in Doylestown and passed his Eagles fandom to his daughter.

“My dad’s from Philly, and he brainwashed me,” Einbinder said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2024. “He brainwashed me very young, so we’re Eagles fans.”

As she’s become a more recognizable star, thanks to her role as comedy writer Ave Daniels in Hacks, and her years headlining comedy stages, Einbinder has repped her Eagles pride more widely.

At last year’s Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, Einbinder, with a golden statuette in hand, shouted out “Go Birds, f– ICE, and free Palestine!" in her acceptance speech.

She appeared on Kylie Kelce’s podcast Not Gonna Lie, wearing a kelly green Eagles varsity jacket in August 2025. When Kelce asked whether she’d ever done an interview without saying, “Go Birds,” Einbinder said no.

“When I think about my identity. I think the order is Eagles fan, queer, Jewish, left-handed, redhead. I think it’s above all of those other things,” said Einbinder.

Following the premiere of Seekers, Einbinder has another string of projects ahead.

The fifth (and potentially final) season of Hacks premieres on HBO Max later this year, and Einbinder is starring in the queer slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, alongside Gillian Anderson.
