David's Bridal Inc., the Conshohocken-based retailer, named Pamela B. Wallack, an executive at Gap Inc., as its new chief executive officer, effective May 28.

Wallack replaces Robert D. Huth, who had led the company since 1999 and retired at the end of March. A controlling interest in David's Bridal was acquired in October by New York buyout firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.

Paul S. Pressler, chairman of David's Bridal and a Clayton partner, is a former Gap CEO.

In a statement, Pressler said he knew Wallack from his days at Gap and she "brings extraordinary strategic, branding and merchandizing capabilities" to the new job. David's Bridal has about 300 stores. - Reid Kanaley
