Former Penn State safety John Petrishen will continue his collegiate career at Pittsburgh, where he will have two years of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer, Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi announced Wednesday.

The 6-foot, 211-pound Petrishen , a graduate of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, disclosed on Twitter earlier this week that he had informed the Nittany Lions’ coaching staff just before the start of training camp of his intention to transfer.

In the post, Petrishen said he had undergone reconstructive shoulder surgery after the conclusion of the 2018 season, his third surgical procedure in four years.

“I believe a fresh start and a change of scenery will pay huge dividends in all aspects of my life,” said Petrishen, who received his degree earlier this month from Penn State.

Petrishen played mostly on special teams the last two seasons. He redshirted his first season, then did not see any game action in his redshirt freshman year.
