Rob Dockery, a redshirt sophomore guard at La Salle, will not be leaving 20th and Olney after all.

Two weeks ago, reports indicated that the Explorers’ leading scorer had entered the transfer portal. The school announced Monday that Dockery is set to return next season.

This is welcome news for coach Darris Nichols, who just completed his first year at the helm of the Explorers. Dockery gave a much-needed lift to an Explorers squad (9-23, 5-13 Atlantic 10) that was ranked the third-most injured team in Division I basketball. The 6-foot-6 guard notched a team-high 12.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

Dockery appeared in all 32 games for the Explorers but did not carve out a starting role until the start of Atlantic 10 play. Against conference opponents, he ranked No. 9 in the A-10 in scoring with 15.4 points per game. He took home Big 5 player of the week honors on March 9 after scoring 25 points against both Fordham and St. Joseph’s. Dockery scored a career-high 33 points in the Explorers’ season-ending loss to St. Bonaventure in the Atlantic 10 tournament.

Dockery was a four-star recruit coming out of Jackson-Reed High School in Washington. He redshirted as a freshman at Texas A&M before making just one appearance with the Aggies.
