Steve Donahue elevates two St. Joseph’s assistants to associate head coaches
Bino Ranson joined St. Joe's from DePaul in May 2025, while Thomas Boyle started off as a student manager for former coach Phil Martelli. Both will serve as an associate head coach under Donahue.

St. Joseph’s is promoting assistant coaches Bino Ranson and Thomas Boyle to associate head coach, the school announced Friday.
“Bino has been an invaluable member of our staff, bringing tremendous passion, boundless energy, and a relentless work ethic to everything he does,” head coach Steve Donahue wrote in a statement. “He is an outstanding recruiter who has played a key role in attracting talented student-athletes who embody the values and competitiveness of our program.”

Ranson was hired in May 2025 under former coach Billy Lange as the team’s recruiting coordinator. Prior to joining the Hawks, Ranson spent two seasons at DePaul and was at Maryland from 2010 to 2021 under former Terrapins head coach Mark Turgeon.
Maryland made an NCAA Tournament appearance five times while Ranson was on staff. He also developed players like Alex Len, Jalen Smith, and Kevin Huerter during his time at College Park.
Boyle has been at St. Joe’s for about 15 years. He’s the grandson of former St. Joe’s coaches Jim Lynam and the late Jim Boyle.
Thomas Boyle graduated from St. Joe’s in 2015. He began his coaching career as student manager for former coach Phil Martelli, before becoming a graduate assistant and video coordinator. In 2018, he was the director of player operations before being elevated to an assistant coach for the last two seasons.
“Tom has been an integral part of our staff, demonstrating unwavering commitment, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the game,” Donahue said. “His work ethic, leadership, and ability to connect with our student-athletes have made a lasting impact on our program both on and off the court.”
