George Mason rolls over St. Joseph’s behind Javon Greene’s 20 points

The Hawks opened the game with a 12-4 lead after going 4-for-6 from three-point range.

FAIRFAX, Va. — Javon Greene had 20 points as George Mason got past St. Joseph’s, 62-55, on Saturday.

Jamal Hartwell II had 13 points for George Mason (15-12, 4-10 Atlantic 10 Conference). AJ Wilson added 13 points and four blocks. Jordan Miller had 10 points and six rebounds.

Ryan Daly led the Hawks (5-22, 1-13) with 20 points. Toliver Freeman added 10 points, and Cameron Brown contributed six rebounds.

George Mason plays No. 5 Dayton at home on Tuesday.

The Hawks opened the game with a 12-4 lead after going 4-for-6 from three-point range. A three-pointer by Dennis Ashley gave St. Joseph’s a 20-12 lead, but George Mason responded with a 17-4 run to end the half, which gave the Patriots a 29-24 edge at halftime.

The Hawks shot 33.9 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from three-point range (8 of 30).

St. Joseph’s, which has lost nine of its last 10, plays St. Louis on the road on Wednesday.
