Bustleton man dies in fire
One man died in a fire in a Bustleton apartment building on Friday.
Philadelphia firefighters were called to 1009 Red Lion Road at 5:38 a.m. Members of Engine 62 were first on the scene and observed smoke billowing from the two-story building.
The flames were declared under control shortly before 6 a.m. During a search of the property, firefighters found the body of Andrew Hawkins, 29, in the bedroom of a second-floor unit. He was found kneeling under a window and pronounced dead at the scene at 6:15 a.m.
No other injuries were reported.
According to Executive Chief Daniel Williams, a fire department spokesman, the blaze started in Hawkins' apartment and engulfed furnishings, walls and the ceiling.
A cause remains under investigation.
There were no smoke alarms in Hawkins' unit, Williams said.
