Fox Chase lass is the winner of Irish cultural pageant

Fox Chase resident Stephanie Lennon was the winner of the recent Philadelphia Mary from Dungloe Pageant.

The pageant was sponsored by the Donegal Association, a local Irish-American cultural group with roots tracing back to County Donegal, Ireland.

The contest is for young women and emphasizes personality, community involvement, knowledge of Irish history and a love for Irish heritage.

Lennon, whose paternal grandmother, the late Mary Cannon Lennon, was born in Donegal, will represent the Donegal Association at events that include Sunday's Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade.

In the summer, she will travel to Dungloe, County Donegal, to compete in the 44th annual international Mary from Dungloe Pageant. She'll have a chance to visit with family who hail from Newtowncunningham, Donegal.

Lennon works as a speech and language therapist at an elementary school, coaches CYO softball at St. Cecilia and plays softball in two adult leagues. She is a member of Irish Network-Philly and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Ireland. She enjoys listening to Irish music and watching Gaelic football.
