A Drexel Hill man stabbed his mother to death during a heated argument inside their home, investigators said Thursday.

Quadir Ford, 20, has been charged with murder and related crimes and remained in custody, denied bail.

Ford admitted to the Monday afternoon killing of his mother, Michelle Fleming, during an interview with Upper Darby police, according to the affidavit of probable cause for his arrest. He told the officers he stabbed Fleming with a silver knife before fleeing his home on State Road in her GMC Arcadia.

Officers were able to track Ford through his mother’s cellphone, which he had taken from his home, the affidavit said. The officers pulled him over while he was driving Fleming’s SUV in Springfield Township.

Ford’s brother found Fleming, 51, unresponsive on the kitchen floor when he returned from work, police said. He initially believed she had a heart attack. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Tim Bernhardt said Thursday that while his officers had never responded to the home before, Ford told them he and his mother had a “very stressful, contentious relationship.”

Ford told officers he “snapped” during an argument and attacked his mother, according to Bernhardt.
