A woman who was originally described as the victim of a hit-and-run was run over and killed by a car she exited when the vehicle came under fire in West Philadelphia, police said Monday.

The new details emerged after police reviewed surveillance video from the 4900 block of Aspen Street following the Sunday-morning fatality.

Police said the woman, Abbra Johnson, 36, had been a passenger in a 2006 white Infiniti that suddenly began reversing down the street when two men appeared ahead of it and at least one of them started shooting.

Johnson got out of the car and was run over as the driver tried to back down the street, striking a number of parked vehicles before coming to a halt, police said. The driver then got out and ran off.

Johnson was pronounced dead a short time later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Captain Frank Milillo of Southwest Detectives said investigators were trying to find the driver as well as the two shooters to determine what led to the incident.

“He knows why he was on that block,” Milillo said of the driver.

Anyone with additional surveillance video or information can call detectives at 215-686-3183.
