Nearly $700,000 was pledged last week to "The Alex Scott Phone Bank," a one-day fund-raiser on KYW (Channel 3) to raise money to fight pediatric cancer through the Alex Lemonade Stand Foundation.
At least $500,000 of the $696,090 in pledges came from businesses, according to the station. Viewer contributions ranged from $1 to $5,000 apiece.
So-so reviews and at least one watchdog group's warning that it "drives a stake through the institution of marriage and family" seem not to have hurt CBS' "Swingtown," which premiered last Thursday to nearly 8.6 million viewers, according to the preliminary Nielsens, which had the wife-swapping '70s drama in second place behind ABC's NBA finals coverage and beating the premiere of NBC's horror anthology series "Fear Itself" by more than 3 million viewers.
The average U.S. home received an average 118.6 TV channels in 2007, according to Nielsen Media Research.
