It's easy eating green

These are a few of our favorite (green) things.

These are a few of our favorite (green) things.

* Spring mix goes Southwestern thanks to chef Gina Rodriguez's creative addition of crunchy chayote squash and roasted pepitas to fresh greens with tangy chili-lime manchego vinaigrette ($5). Kokopelli, 1904 Chestnut St., 215-557-7510, kokopelliphilly.com.

* Tender Boston lettuce keeps charming company with Granny Smith apples, bleu cheese, spicy cashews and a honey-sesame vinaigrette ($9.99) at Solaris Grille, 8201 Germantown Ave., 215-242-3400, www.solarisgrille.com.

* Chef/owner John Brandt-Lee is committed to sustainable, locally sourced ingredients at Avalon Restaurant, 312 S. High St., West Chester, 610-436-4100, avalonrestaurant.net. His Insalata del Giorno — salad of the day, market priced in the $8-$10 range — illustrates that point.

* Chef Jeffrey Power works the simplest kind of savory magic at Dettera, 129 E. Butler Ave., Ambler, 215-643-0111, http://dettera.com. A recent addition of Humboldt Fog goat cheese ($6) to a green salad tossed with local apples and hazelnuts in a white balsamic vinaigrette ($7) was perfect.

* Colorful squash is the star of chef Al Paris' seasonal butternut-squash salad ($11) at City Tap House, 3925 Walnut St., 215-662-0105, www.citytaphouse.com.

* OK, the calamari is fried. So order the smaller plate of crispy calamari salad at Buddakan, 325 Chestnut St., 215-574-9440, www.buddakan.com. It's a classic combo ($12) that never gets tiresome.

* Fruity and savory flavors sing in the chopped Asian salad ($8) at Susanna Foo Gourmet Kitchen (555 E. Lancaster Ave., Radnor, 610-688-8808, www.susannafoo.com), a vegetarian/vegan friendly mix of tofu, shredded Napa cabbage and pineapple in a citrus vinaigrette.

* Caesar salad can be so goopy. Not at Meme, 2201 Spruce St., 215-735-4900, memerestaurant.com. Chef/owner David Katz's version ($9) is bright with notes of citrus.

* The tuna Nicoise salad ($9) is one of many reasons to visit Café Estelle, 444 N. 4th St., 215-925-5080, cafeestelle.com.
