PITTSBURGH - City police found an unlikely resident along with three robbery suspects while searching a house: a 6-foot alligator.

Officers stumbled across the reptile in the basement of the property in the city's Homewood section Wednesday night. They also found an emaciated pit bull.

The animals were turned over to the Animal Rescue League and their fate remains undetermined, said police Lt. Michael Scott.

Police searched the house after a couple reported they had been robbed of $220 there earlier.

Paris Moore, 21, Kent Bratcher, 22, and Niquia Alston, 31, were arrested and charged with robbery and criminal conspiracy, among other offenses. They are being held at Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing has been set for Dec. 13. *
