Squirrel turns out lights in Lancaster

More than 2,000 people in Lancaster lost power yesterday and two schools had to open late - thanks to a squirrel.

More than 2,000 people in Lancaster lost power yesterday and two schools had to open late - thanks to a squirrel.

Officials said the power outage affected about 2,700 Lancaster city residents about 6:30 a.m. Two elementary schools also delayed the start of classes for two hours because they had no electricity.

Pennsylvania Power & Light spokesman John Levitski said there was a tree down in the same area, but the culprit in the power outage was much smaller: a squirrel that chewed on overhead power lines.

He said electricity was restored by about 8:30 a.m.
