THE CINCINNATI Bengals have signed defensive end Carlos Dunlap to a 5-year contract extension worth $40 million.

The Bengals announced the deal yesterday Dunlap's contract would have expired after this season, but it now runs through 2018. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, says Dunlap gets $20 million over the first 2 years in a deal with incentives.

The 6-6, 280-pound Dunlap is a fourth-year pro from Florida. He had 55 tackles and six sacks in 14 games last season.

In a 20-13 victory over San Diego, he had two sacks and forced fumbles, and recovered one late in the game to preserve the victory. He was chosen AFC Defensive Player of the Week for that. He also had a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown against Baltimore.

"I'll be out there doing everything from all the drills to all the plays they want me to do," Ware said at a publicity appearance. "I know how it's going to go, and it's going to go well."

Ware had offseason surgery on his right shoulder that kept him out of team drills in organized team activities in May and June's minicamp. Ware played most of the second half of last season with the injury and was bothered by an elbow injury that did not require surgery.

* The Green Bay Packers signed safety Morgan Burnett to a long-term extension, reported by NFL.com to be worth $24.75 million over 4 years. With Charles Woodson missing most of last season with a broken collarbone, Burnett took charge of the Packers secondary. He led the team with 123 tackles, and was one of only two defensive players in the NFL to play every snap.

In another matter, the Packers officials announced they took in a record $308.1 million in total revenue over the last fiscal year, up 2 percent from 2012. The team also generated a record $54.3 million in profit, up 26.4 percent, and a record $43.1 million in net income.

Dennard, 23, was pulled over in Lincoln, Neb., early Thursday morning and is charged with first-offense drunken driving, refusing a chemical test and a traffic infraction. It was Dennard's second arrest in 15 months. The former Cornhuskers star hasn't served a 30-day jail sentence for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest outside a Lincoln bar on April 21, 2012.
