KEVIN KOLB'S luck with injuries isn't getting any better.

The Eagles' 2010 Opening Day quarterback - who lost his starting job with a concussion that day - left Buffalo's game Saturday against Washington because of concussion-like symptoms.

Kolb was injured in the first quarter when he was kneed in the helmet following an 8-yard scramble. Coach Doug Marrone said it was too soon to determine how much time Kolb could miss. The injury-prone quarterback has had issues with concussions in the past, having sustained two in his first six seasons.

After releasing Tarvaris Jackson earlier in the offseason, the Bills hoped Kolb and rookie EJ Manuel would compete for the starting job at training camp but injuries have gotten in the way.

Kolb missed more than a week of camp after injuring his left knee on Aug. 3. Kolb was hurt when he tripped on a wet rubber mat between practice fields.

Manuel appeared well on his way toward earning the job before he sustained a left-knee injury of his own in Buffalo's second preseason game. Manuel has not been ruled out for Buffalo's season opener and the Bills are optimistic regarding his return. He had what the team referred to only as a "minor procedure" after injuring his knee.

Yesterday, the Bills signed free agent Matt Leinart and added Thaddeus Lewis in a trade that sent linebacker Chris White to Detroit to beef up their QB depth. Undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel also is on the roster.

Leinart, the 2004 Heisman Trophy at Southern California, was drafted by Arizona in the first round in 2006. After four seasons with the Cardinals, he spent 2011 with Houston and last year with Oakland.

Lewis spent the last two seasons with Cleveland. He started the Browns' 2012 season finale against Pittsburgh, completing 22 of 32 passes for 204 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Noteworthy

* New York Giants free safety Stevie Brown will miss the entire season with a torn ACL in his left knee, sustained in Saturday's preseason loss to the Jets. Brown, 27, who led the Giants with eight interceptions last season, was placed on injured reserve.

For now, it leaves the Giants without the starting safeties from a year ago, with strong safety Antrel Rolle still out with a sprained ankle. "But we expect Antrel to practice this week and get him back on the field," coach Tom Coughlin said.

Brown's injury, which came on a non-contact play soon after he intercepted Geno Smith's pass and returned it 22 yards, will move former Steelers reserve Ryan Mundy into a starting role.

* New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is "day-to-day" with an injured shoulder that will sideline him for the preseason finale against the Eagles on Thursday. Sanchez is competing with rookie Geno Smith for the starting job. Smith struggled in his first NFL start, throwing three interceptions and stepping out of the back of the end zone for a safety while playing into the fourth quarter.

* Former Eagle King Dunlap appears to have won the starting job at left tackle for San Diego.

* Green Bay released incumbent No. 2 quarterback Graham Harrell, making it likely that Vince Young will open the season as Aaron Rodgers' backup. Also, the Packers signed kicker Zach Ramirez and had him competing with Mason Crosby and Giorgio Tavecchio. Crosby last year had a league-worst 63.6 percent success rate on field goals.

* Oakland released kickoff-return specialist Josh Cribbs.

* Jacksonville released veteran long snapper Jeremy Cain.

* Chicago released two noteworthy veterans: safety Tom Zbikowski and defensive end Kyle Moore.

* Baltimore cut tight end Visanthe Shiancoe, less than a month after the longtime Viking joined the team as a free agent.

* Arizona released kicker Dan Carpenter, 4 days after signing him to compete with Jay Feely.

* Former Tennessee linebacker Keith Bulluck was charged with felony robbery after a Nashville cabdriver accused him of taking money during an argument. The driver was waiting outside a bar for a paid fare early yesterday when Bulluck approached him asking for a ride, police said in a statement. The driver said he declined and Bulluck grabbed him by his shirt, took a $100 bill and fled. In a statement to the Tennessean, Bulluck described the incident as a "misunderstanding between me and the cab driver about getting my money back for a service not rendered." Bulluck retired in 2012 after 11 seasons in the NFL.
