Rutgers-Camden falls in Division III men's soccer championship

Scarlet Raptors fall to Messiah, 2-1.

RUTGERS-CAMDEN lost in the championship game of Division III men's soccer tournament on Saturday night.

The Scarlet Raptors fell to Messiah, 2-1, in double-overtime in San Antonio. It was Messiah's fourth NCAA title in 5 years and 10th overall.

Rutgers-Camden senior defender Taylor McGrory scored in the 79th minute.

Tim Oswald, in his eighth season as head coach of Rutgers-Camden, guided the Scarlet Raptors to their first semifinal and championship games.

"It was a great recap of a tremendous season," said Oswald, whose team finished 23-1-2.

College Cup set

New Mexico, Notre Dame, Maryland and Virginia have made the Division I men's soccer Final Four, which will be held this weekend at PPL Park.

Notre Dame and New Mexico will play at 5 p.m. Friday and Maryland and Virginia will meet at 7:30.

The championship game will be played at 3 p.m. Sunday.
