Penn women open women's NCAA lax tourney with win

THE PENN women's lacrosse team opened its eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament with a 9-4 victory over Canisius in a first-round game yesterday in College Park, Md.

Senior midfielder Tory Benson led the Quakers with four goals and an assist. Sophomore attacker Nina Corcoran added a goal and two assists.

Penn (13-4) now plays the host Terrapins (19-1), the overall No. 1 seed, tomorrow at noon. Maryland has won a record 10 national championships and has made a record 30 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
