DeVonta Smith remains undefeated. In his celebrity softball game, that is.

Smith's team won the fifth annual event, 13-3, and Eagles past and present from Dallas Goedert and Jordan Mailata to Terrell Owens and Hugh Davis showed out.

ALLENTOWN — Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith traded their pads for bats for Smith’s fifth annual celebrity softball game on Saturday.

The quarterback and wide receiver duo became a battery at Coca-Cola Park, home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, helping power the red team to a 13-3 win over the blue team.

And, clearly, the pass game differs from pitching and catching more than it may seem.

Hurts might have made a career out of his ability to throw a football, but that talent didn’t exactly translate to throwing a softball.

But like with the Eagles, Hurts’ defense was there to help. Backing him up in the field was former Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens, Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, social media personality Nasir “Gillie da King,” Fard, and others.

For Smith, there was never a doubt that everyone would bring their A-game to the event, especially if it meant being able to dethrone the host.

“Everyone’s kind of hating that I haven’t lost yet,” Smith said pregame.

And unfortunately for the opposing blue team, Smith still hasn’t lost. The blue team featured Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham; former Eagles Nakobe Dean, Isaiah Rodgers, and Hugh Douglas; and Eagles linebacker and home run derby champion Jalyx Hunt.

Hunt hit nine homers to secure the title in the derby, but it was Goedert who went yard twice when it really mattered to help propel Smith’s team to a win, helping earn Goedert game MVP honors.

During the derby, Goedert and many of the other NFL players went homer-less.

Instead, the sponsors came out swinging. Chris Beiler with Keystone Outdoor Living was the eighth participant to take a turn in the derby and the first to hit a home run. He finished the first round with four. Peter Zook with Stolzfus Sheds led Round 1 with seven dingers.

In the second round, Dean got his total up to eight, which Zook then matched, leading to a swing-off to break the tie. But ultimately, Hunt came out on top.

Maybe it’s best some of the others stick to football. Zook and Beiler, however, certainly will have the edge at their company softball outings.

But that’s all part of the fun of the day.

“I feel like everyone enjoys seeing the guys that think they’re the best athletes, and then they come play softball,” Smith said.

Fans also enjoyed seeing familiar faces at the event, like Rodgers and Dean, who still felt all the love from Eagles fans.

“It felt good to see my dogs, my old teammates, friends,” Rodgers said. “I feel good.”

Smith also acknowledged a more serious topic, the trade rumors surrounding fellow wide receiver A.J. Brown. Smith didn’t reveal anything more about the situation but reiterated that whatever happened, he knew his role.

“I got a job to do so I plan to go out there and do that,” Smith said.

Gonzalez also had a turn giving his input on a situation surrounding his team, the recent scandal surrounding Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and NFL reporter Dianna Russini.

“That’s my coach. That’s who I go out there and play for,” Gonzalez said. “He’s proven what he can do as a coach. That’s my guy, and I ride behind Vrabes any time of the day.”

But the rest of the day was reserved for more lighthearted things like a friendly game of football pong between Graham and Mailata, Hurts and Gillie griddying into home, interacting with the fans, and many, many Eagles chants.
