Where the Eagles are perfect in NFL history

The Eagles-Jets history started with Joe Namath on the bench. It did not get better for New York from there.

The Eagles are 11-0 all-time against the Jets, 10-1 against the spread.

Here’s a look at the series, which resumes Sunday in New York with the Eagles favored by a touchdown:

1973

Eagles, 24-23 | Line: Jets -3 -- The Jets jumped to a 17-0 lead, which would have generated a fat Eagles line long before in-game wagering became a thing. It was a rainy December day and Joe Namath, and his cranky knees, sat out. The Eagles’ winning touchdown came on John Outlaw’s interception return off backup Al Woodall. Maybe the lopsidedness of this series is a Namath curse.

1977

Eagles, 27-0 | Line: Eagles -6.5 -- This season finale was beyond meaningless as the Eagles entered 5-8 and the Jets 3-10. The win didn’t hurt the Eagles draft position, either. They had traded away their first two picks for 1978 to Cincinnati for Bill Bergey four years before. Imagine making such a trade today.

1978

Eagles, 17-9 | Line: Eagles -4 -- The Birds pulled out a late cover when Ron Jaworski hit Harold Carmichael for a TD with two minutes left. Carmichael, who had two touchdown catches, also blocked an extra point that day.

1987

Eagles, 38-27 | Line: Jets -2 -- This one also blew past the total of 42, the first over/under we could find in this series.

1993

Eagles, 35-30 | Line: Jets -1 -- The Eagles lost Randall Cunningham to a broken leg and WR1 Fred Barnett to a torn ACL, but still won and covered on Eric Allen’s 94-yard interception return midway through the fourth quarter. These injuries helped turn the Eagles’ 4-0 start into an 8-8 basket of mediocrity.

1996

Eagles, 21-20 | Line: Eagles -7 -- The Eagles needed a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to avoid being upset by the Jets, who came into the game 1-13. It was the only game New York has covered in the series.

2003

Eagles, 24-17 | Line: Eagles -3 -- The Jets gagged again in the fourth quarter, allowing the Eagles to score 10 points in the final six minutes. David Akers’ field goal with 72 seconds left was a nice backdoor cover that undoubtedly burned the local bookies.

2007

Eagles, 16-9 | Line: Eagles -4.5 -- The Eagles were 1-3. The Jets were 1-4. There were six field goals, one touchdown, and the over of 43.5 never had a chance. Still an Eagles cover, however.

2011

Eagles, 45-19 | Line: Eagles -3 -- LeSean McCoy broke Steve Van Buren’s 66-year-old record for touchdowns in a season as the Eagles rolled. Boy, the Jets really stink.

2015

Eagles, 24-17 | Line: Jets -1.5 -- With Pope Francis saying mass on the Parkway, the Eagles went up the turnpike and made it 10 wins in a row against the Jets. Over 45.5 points, however, did not get there.

2019

Eagles, 31-6 | Line: Eagles -14 -- The Birds defense had 10 sacks, forced three turnovers and scored two touchdowns in the romp.

Eleven games, 10 covers, and it all started with Joe Namath on the bench.
