Update: The Eagles had two men on their cheerleading squad for the 1984-1984 season. The headline and story have been changed to reflect that.

Kyle Tanguay became the first man to be named to the Eagles’ cheerleading squad since the 1980s for the 2019 season.

Tanguay is in his junior year as the University of the Arts, where he is studying dance. He is just the fourth man to cheer on the sidelines for an NFL team.

Last season, Napoleon Jinnies and Quinton Peron cheered for the Los Angeles Rams. When the Rams made it to Super Bowl LIII (where they lost to the Patriots, 13-3), Jinnies and Peron made history by becoming the first men to cheer at a Super Bowl.

Jesse Hernandez, inspired by the hiring of Jinnies and Peron last spring, decided to try out as well. He was named to the New Orleans Saints’ squad ahead of the start of the 2018 season.

The Eagles held their final audition show on Tuesday. You can watch part of the program here.
