The Eagles claimed safety Godwin Igwebuike off waivers on Tuesday, adding depth to the defensive backfield after bypassing the position in the draft.

Igwebuike, 24, was waived by the 49ers on Monday. He’s entering his second season after spending time with Tampa Bay (one game) and San Francisco (five games) last season. The Bucs signed Igwebuike as an undrafted rookie out of Northwestern last season. He was second-team All-Big Ten during his senior season for the Wildcats.

The Eagles return starters Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod at safety, although McLeod is coming off a season-ending injury. They signed veteran Andrew Sendejo away from Minnesota this offseason. Tre Sullivan and Deiondre’ Hall also return from last year’s roster.
