Nick Foles trolls Tom Brady, Jalen Hurts has ‘ice blood’ and more of what they’re saying about the Eagles
The national media and former players reacted to the Birds’ dominant win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

On Sunday night, seven years after beating Tom Brady and the Patriots with their backup quarterback, the Eagles shocked the world again. After a dominant 40-22 win over the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, players were showered in green and white confetti inside the Superdome in New Orleans as they captured the second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.
But this was a game where the scoreboard alone doesn’t tell the complete story. The Chiefs were down 34-0 in the third quarter, before getting most of their points in garbage-time, as the Eagles defense did something most NFL teams never can: make Patrick Mahomes look human. And it’s safe to say fans and critics alike weren’t expecting such a dominant performance from the Birds.
Here’s what the national media and former players are saying after the Birds’ championship performance …
Jalen Hurts is a ‘baller’
Jalen Hurts’ success carried over from the NFC championship game into Sunday’s Super Bowl, where he was named game MVP. Hurts finished the night with 221 passing yards, 72 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns, including one on the ground. ESPN analyst Mina Kimes believes Hurts performs the best when the lights are the brightest.
“To expand a bit on Hurts being excellent,” Kimes wrote on X. “He played the best game of his career (to that point) in the Super Bowl 2 years ago, and just played the 2 best games of his season in the NFC Championship and Super Bowl again. Rises to the occasion in the biggest moments. Baller.”
Hurts has faced criticism over the past few months leading up to the Super Bowl, as the passing game took a backseat to the team’s dominant run game. But that changed after his performance against the Commanders. And after another big game, First Take’s Stephen A. Smith, who previously said Hurts would be the difference on Sunday, took some time to discuss his impact.

“He’s a big-gamer,” Smith said. “He’s in a conversation that Joe Burrow is not in, that Lamar Jackson is not in, and Josh Allen is not in. And that is Super Bowl MVP. And by the way, Jalen Hurts has played better against Patrick Mahomes than any of them have, even with the sensational performances that Josh Allen has put forth.
“Jalen Hurts didn’t just do it with his arm, with that touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith which was big time, he also did it repeatedly with his legs. When the Chiefs defense had somebody, had them bottled up, he found a way to extend plays to make things happen. … Jalen Hurts was absolutely sensational. He deserves all the credit in the world and to me he’s just proven that, you know what, he’s got ice blood in his veins. He ain’t fazed by the big moment. He showed up when he was called upon to do so and showed what he’s capable of.”
Knocking Mahomes out of the G.O.A.T. convo
While Eagles fans were witnessing Hurts dominating on one side of the field, Chiefs fans were witnessing something unfamiliar to them: Mahomes struggling. The veteran quarterback finished the night with 257 yards and three touchdowns, nearly all of it coming in the fourth quarter, and three costly interceptions.

Smith, after seeing what Vic Fangio’s defense did to Mahomes, said this game has an impact on the G.O.A.T. debate.
“[The debate]’s officially over,” Smith said. “Let me just throw out these stats for you to get right here. This is Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, 3-2 record. 65% completion. 265 yards. 10 touchdowns. 7 interceptions. A passing rating of 86.9, OK? Even though he’s won Super Bowl MVPs. You’re talking about Tom Brady with a 7-3 record. His record speaks for himself. Five-time Super Bowl MVP, all of that stuff. We got to bring Joe Montana back into this conversation because of what we witnessed yesterday.”
Nick Foles trolls Tom Brady
Of course, the national media weren’t the only ones with something to say after a Eagles big win. Former players took to social media to react, including the former 2018 champ himself, Nick Foles. Foles brought the very first Lombardi Trophy to the city of Philadelphia after defeating a Brady-led Patriots team seven years ago.
Fast-forward to this year’s Super Bowl, which also featured the Eagles and Brady, with Brady in the booth working as a Fox analyst. Despite sharing the screen together for a Super Bowl commercial, Foles took the time to troll Brady after the win.
“It’s really cool that Tom Brady got to be there for the Eagles’ two Super Bowl wins,” Foles wrote on social media. “He might be a good-luck charm. Have a great night!”

‘Next year we going back-to-back’
Former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy shared his thoughts Monday morning on his FS1 show The Facility.
“They tried to count us out but we came to New Orleans and we took over the scene,” McCoy said. “Let me tell you one thing: They doubted my quarterback and what did he do? Super Bowl MVP. They doubted my defense. What they do? Shut them out and embarrass them.
“Nick Sirianni, sir. I see you somewhere. You better put more respect on my head coach because all he does is win, win, win. Two Super Bowls in three years. And this is what people don’t want to talk about. Next year we going back-to-back.”
Back-to-back Super Bowl championships sounds like a great time for Eagles fans. But let’s just stick to this present moment — for now. Philadelphia woke up Monday morning as champions. That’s right, it wasn’t a dream everyone. Just look at Broad Street for evidence.
But if you don’t believe your own eyes, then believe former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins.
