Sources: Eagles agree to terms with tight ends Grant Calcaterra and Johnny Mundt

Mundt was with the Jaguars last season and previously crossed paths with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion in Los Angeles and Minnesota. Calcaterra will return to the room on a one-year deal.

Why did the Eagles’ running game take a step back in 2025? A banged-up offensive line was a big issue, but they also did not get good enough blocking from the tight end position.

On the second day of the NFL’s legal tampering period, Howie Roseman made a move to try to rectify that.

The Eagles — an NFL source confirmed an NFL Network report — agreed to a one-year deal with Johnny Mundt, who played last season with Jacksonville after five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and three with the Minnesota Vikings.

They also re-signed Grant Calcaterra, who has been with the team since they drafted him in the sixth round in 2022, to a one-year deal, sources confirmed a report from ESPN. Calcaterra’s blocking abilities out of the TE2 spot were sometimes problematic in 2025, but the Eagles still value his pass catching.

Calcaterra has 42 catches for 494 yards and two touchdowns in 62 career games with the Eagles.

Mundt, who is primarily a blocking tight end with 74 catches in 114 career games, overlapped with two new members of the Eagles’ coaching staff in his past. He played with offensive coordinator Sean Mannion when Mannion was a backup quarterback with the Rams in 2017 and 2018, and when Mannion was with Minnesota in 2021 and 2023. The Vikings’ offensive line coach for all three of Mundt’s seasons in Minnesota was new Eagles offensive line coach Chris Kuper.

Mundt, who was released by Jacksonville on Monday, caught just nine passes on 19 targets last season with the Jaguars. His best seasons as a pass catcher were in Minnesota, where he caught 19, 17, and 19 passes and four total touchdowns in his three seasons. But Pro Football Focus rated Mundt the ninth-best blocking tight end in the league last season, which made him an attractive free agent for the Eagles.

The Eagles also were interested in former Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar, who is a premium blocker. But Kolar’s deal with the Chargers — reportedly three years and more than $24 million — was a bit out of their range.

Mundt and Calcaterra join Jaheim Bell, Cam Latu, and E.J. Jenkins as the tight ends on the roster. The Eagles still need a pass-catching tight end at the top of the depth chart. Dallas Goedert is a free agent, and the Eagles have some incentive to try to bring him back to avoid $20.5 million in dead cap in 2026.

The Eagles also could use an early pick in the draft on a tight end if they’re unable to secure a top-end talent in free agency.
