New films this week include ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ with Harry Styles and Florence Pugh
Lena Dunham is back in the director's chair in Catherine Called Birdy,Railway Children Return is based on a beloved 1906 British novel and Don't Worry Darling looks at a fictional 1950s company town.
‘Don’t Worry Darling’
A couple is living a “perfect” life in an experimental 1950s company town, in which all needs are met by the company, until one housewife begins to question just what the company’s doing. Starring Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Olivia Wilde, and Chris Pine and directed by Wilde (Booksmart). (Rated R. Premieres Friday, Sept. 23, in theaters.)
‘Railway Children Return’
Family drama about a group of English children evacuated to a small village during World War II, who discover a wounded American on a secret mission. With John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Jenny Agutter, Sheridan Smith, and Tom Courtenay. Sort of sequel to the 1970 film, which also starred Agutter. Based on a beloved British novel by E. Nesbit, published in 1906. (Rated PG. Premieres Friday, Sept. 23, in theaters.)
‘Catherine Called Birdy’
Bella Ramsey stars as a 14-year-old girl in medieval England with a very modern worldview. She’s cleverly trying to outwit and avoid the men her father wants her to marry. With Billie Piper. Written and directed by Lena Dunham (Girls), based on the book by Karen Cushman. (Rated PG-13. Premieres Friday, Sept. 23, in selected theaters, and Friday, Oct. 7, on Prime Video.)
