Sunday Act of freedom Set on Robben Island, the infamous South African prison, the 1972 drama The Island follows two men sentenced for violations of apartheid laws as they try to resist the pointless hard labor and daily drudgery designed to break their spirits by rehearsing Sophocles’ paean to civil disobedience, Antigone. The play, by Athol Fugard, John Kani, and Winston Ntshona, is presented by the Lantern Theater Company at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen’s Theater, 10th and Ludlow Streets, and continues on a Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule to June 10.
