Mass migration: Catholic summer services at the Jersey Shore

There's something that Shore Catholics wonder about summer Catholics, according to Monsignor Peter "Father Pete" Joyce, pastor at St. Maximilian Kolbe in Marmora.

They see droves of vacationers from Philly out jogging and droves in church, he said. "We laugh a little bit. We say they all get exercise and religion in the summer. We wonder if they do it as much in Philadelphia as they do here."

On a more reverent note, Father Pete said, they also see summer parishoners as full-fledged parishoners. "They're not tourists. They're not visitors. Our approach is, 'Welcome home. We've missed you.' "

Below are summer 2013 weekly Mass times for Catholic churches (and a couple high schools) on the barrier islands from Brigantine south to Cape May. Summer hours go into effect at different times in different parishes, as noted.
