Flyers call up defenseman David Jiříček from Lehigh Valley
The No. 6 overall pick by Columbus in 2022, Jiříček came to the Flyers in the trade that sent Bobby Brink to Minnesota.

The Flyers called up defenseman David Jiříček from Lehigh Valley on Sunday as the team looks to clinch its first playoff berth since 2020.
At the trade deadline, the Flyers dealt winger Bobby Brink to Minnesota in exchange for Jiříček, the No. 6 overall pick in 2022. After the trade, Jiříček, 22, was assigned to the Phantoms, where he had two goals and 11 assists in 13 games.
The Flyers have two games left in the regular season, a back-to-back against Carolina and Montreal on Monday and Tuesday at Xfinity Mobile Arena. The team can clinch a postseason berth as early as Monday, and will make the playoffs if it wins out.
None of the Flyers’ regular defensemen are on injured reserve, and there were no corresponding NHL moves announced, so the call-up may be to get Jiříček into morning skate and warmups on Monday to potentially play Tuesday if the Flyers manage to clinch against Carolina.
In 84 career NHL games with Columbus and Minnesota, Jiříček has two goals and 11 assists. He scored no points in 25 games with the Wild this season, averaging 11 minutes, 43 seconds of ice time. He’s been a force on the power play so far in Lehigh Valley, scoring both of his goals with the man advantage.
Jiříček will wear No. 5 with the Flyers, last worn by defenseman Egor Zamula.
