Girl, 8, hit by car, injured on way to school

An 8-year-old Delaware County girl was seriously injured Wednesday morning when she darted out into the road and was stuck by a car, police said.

An 8-year-old Delaware County girl was seriously injured Wednesday morning when she darted out into the road and was stuck by a car, police said.

The unidentified child, a student at the Ardmore Avenue School in Collingdale, was waiting at a bus stop on Springfield Road and decided to cross the street, when she was hit.

She suffered leg and facial injuries and was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia by Darby Ambulance, police said.

The unidentified driver, a 63-year-old woman, suffered chest pains and was admitted to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. There is no word on her condition.

An investigation is under way and no charges have been filed.
