Cars for the needy set on fire

Police in Abington Township are investigating an arson fire involving several cars parked at the rear of the New Life Presbyterian Church on Easton Road in Glenside.

Police in Abington Township are investigating an arson fire involving several cars parked behind  the New Life Presbyterian Church on Easton Road in Glenside.

The blaze broke out at 11:35 p.m. Sunday in two of seven vehicles parked along a fence near the driveway exit to Jenkintown Road. Police said it was intentionally set.

Two homes nearby were evacuated when the fire spread to two other cars, a tree and a fence. The vehicles belong to the church as part of a program to repair them for people in need.

Two cars were destroyed; two others were damaged.

Authorities ask that anyone with information about the arson contact Abington Police Department Detective Division at 267-536-1100, and choose option #4.
