A woman was killed in a Strawberry Mansion house fire early Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
Fire crews were dispatched to a house on the 1900 block of North Stanley Street at 8:56 a.m., said Executive Chief Richard Davison of the Philadelphia Fire Department.
Firefighters saw light smoke on the second floor and had the fire under control by 9:10 a.m., he said.
One woman died in the fire, Davison said, and a man was taken to the hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Derrick Sawyer told reporters at the scene there were two mounted smoke alarms in the house, but neither was working.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. – Aubrey Whelan
