Woman, Phila. officer hurt in collision

PHILADELPHIA An officer drove into a car pulling out of a driveway early Saturday morning in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

The incident occurred just before 6:30 a.m. on the 9100 block of Academy Road. The on-duty officer, driving a Police Department car, was in the right eastbound lane on Academy Road. (The street winds north-south on that block, meaning the officer was traveling south at that time.)

A 44-year-old woman was coming out of the driveway of an apartment complex, police said. According to the officer, the woman did not stop before exiting the driveway, and he was unable to stop in time, police said.

The woman was taken to Aria Health-Torresdale Campus, where she was treated for pain to her head, neck, and arm. The police officer was taken to the same hospital for a cut to the leg.

A 34-year-old man and 3-year-old girl who were passengers in the woman's car had no reported injuries.

No arrests had been made by Saturday afternoon, police said, as the investigation continued.
