One person was killed and three others injured when a small airplane crashed Friday night in Hamilton Township, N.J., police said.

The plane crashed around 8:40 p.m. in a wooded area near Paddock Street and the Atlantic City Expressway, police said.

The crash site is not far from Atlantic City International Airport, maps show.

Rescue crews quickly located the plane in the wooded area by tracking its transponder, police said.

A United States Coast Guard helicopter and forest fire units also responded to the scene, helping to extricate the victims.

One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while the three injured occupants have been taken to hospitals.
