Saturday’s South Jersey Roundup: Diana Parker hits two homers to get Delsea to Hammonton Invitational semifinal

The top games and highlights from Saturday's South Jersey action.

Delsea beat Hammonton, 6-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Hammonton Invitational softball tournament on Saturday. Winning pitcher Diana Parker allowed one hit and struck out seven. She also hit two homers and had four RBIs. Losing pitcher Mary Jane Calascione doubled for Hammonton’s lone hit.

Delsea will play Burlington Township in the semifinal at noon, Sunday. Millville will face Rancocas Valley in the other semifinal, also at noon. The winners will play in the championship game at 2 p.m.

Millville beat Cherokee, 4-0, in the quarterfinal. Winning pitcher Mahogany Wheeler had a homer and two RBIs. Karlee Rossetti added an RBI for the Thunderbolts.

Burlington Township beat Seneca, 3-1, in the first round. The Falcons scored all of their runs in the fifth inning. Caitlyn Henry had an RBI for Burlington Township. The Falcons then beat Bordentown, 3-1, in the quarterfinals.

Cherokee beat Audubon, 6-4, in the first round. Jordan Deveney went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored. Adrianna Shannon went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Olivia Malinowski went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs for Audubon.

Mikaila Rodriguez hit three solo homers in Hammonton’s 13-3 first-round win over Eastern. Calascione also hit a home run and had three RBIs.

Cherry Hill West beat Cherry Hill East, 18-2, behind four RBIs from Meredith Brickner. Kayla Posten, Jess Bianco, Rachel Kubrak, and Amelia Sims each had three RBIs in the Lions’ Olympic Conference win.

Pennsville beat Woodstown, 5-1, in a Tri-County Conference matchup. Renee Ridgway, Caroline Zullo, and Paige Wilson hit doubles for the Eagles.

Winning pitcher Gianna Terpolilli went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, as St. Joseph beat Atlantic City, 13-3, in a Cape Atlantic League matchup. Terpolilli won her seventh game of the season. Makayla Veneziale hit a homer, and Emily Jost went 2-for-3 with a double.

Holy Spirit beat Winslow Township, 16-6. Taylor Timek went 3-for-3, scored two runs, and had three RBIs. Emily Magee struck out six. Sophia Pasquale hit her fourth homer of the season.

Baseball

Cherry Hill East beat Cherry Hill West, 5-4, with a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lions lost their first game of the year after starting 14-0, including coach Dan McMaster’s 200th career win on Friday against Camden Catholic. Cherry Hill West’s Scotty Shaw had his 100th career hit.

Chris Rowell earned a complete-game win, as Paul VI beat St. Joseph, 3-1. Rowell allowed one hit and eight walks. He struck out six, including the final batter of the game.

Mainland beat Kingsway, 9-3, behind a six-run third inning. Winning pitcher Hunter Rich allowed five hits and four walks in seven innings and struck out three batters. Justin Szestowicki hit a homer for Kingsway.

St. Augustine beat La Salle, 5-0. Anthony Sofran allowed just three hits and one walk. He struck out three batters in his complete-game victory.

Pennsville won longtime coach Lee Ware’s final home game, beating Woodstown, 4-1, in a Tri-County Conference matchup. Winning pitcher Cody Durham struck out seven and threw a complete game. Dane Thomas and Sean Smith each went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ray Knappenberger went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Maple Shade beat Westampton Tech, 13-1, in a matchup of two Burlington County League teams. The Wildcats scored nine runs in the first inning. Zachary Kinnerman and Luke Kinnerman each had two RBIs.

King’s Christian and Camden Catholic’s game on Saturday night raised money for the family of Jon Martinez, a Timber Creek baseball player whose house burned on April 28. Martinez and his family fled the home safely but won’t be able to return, NJ.com reported. A GoFundMe crowdsourcing campaign benefiting the family has raised more than $4,200 as of Saturday night.

More than 400 people attended the game to raise about $2,000 and donate clothing for the family. Camden Catholic won, 3-1. Winning pitcher Darren Parker had an RBI single in the top of the fifth.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Sophia Graffeo scored seven goals, including the 100th of her career, to help Cherry Hill West beat Cherry Hill East, 18-3, in an Olympic Conference matchup. Madelyn Orefice had four goals, and Kelsey Clauss had a hat trick.

Our Lady of Mercy beat Maple Shade, 13-0. Mary Meduri led the Villagers with five goals. Anissa Serafine and Adrianna Dodge each scored twice.

Haddonfield lost to Notre Dame, 13-8. Caroline Beckett led the Bulldawgs with four goals. Wayden Ay had a goal and three assists for Haddonfield. Mikayla Dever and Claire Gola each had hat tricks for Notre Dame. Gola also had her 200th career draw control.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Lenape beat Holy Cross, 19-1, behind nine first-quarter goals. Mason Bregman and Hunter Lippincott each scored four goals. Luke Cole had a hat trick, while Bryce Reece and Riley Spitznas each scored twice.

Moorestown beat Cherokee, 17-7. The Quakers outscored Cherokee 5-0 in the first quarter. Patrick Coleman scored a game-high five goals, and Shane Knobloch and Jack Stewart each scored hat tricks. Knobloch also had five assists. AJ Pasquarello had two goals and four assists for Cherokee.

Haddonfield beat Kingsway, 15-4. Drew Ragone led the Bulldawgs with six goals. Aiden Blake, Jon Robbins, and Reece Purnell each scored twice.

Girls’ Track and Field

Cherry Hill East’s Mary Kate McCurdy, Zeyonna Davis, Elliana Tonghini, and Sara Pierce won the distance-medley relay at the Rowan Open in 12:37.69.

Kingsway’s Ashlynne Burke, Allie Pierontoni, Emily Pierontoni, and Skye Robinson won the 4-x-800-meter relay in 9:39.89. They finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of second-place Winslow Township.

Rancocas Valley’s Rachel Flanagan, Jaeda Butler, Kharonay Brown and Anabella Chin won the 4-x-100 shuttle hurdle in 1:03.49 seconds, nearly five seconds faster than the second-place team.

Winslow Township’s Jaia James, Tionna Tobias, Nylah Perry, and Janeya Hammond won the 800 sprint medley in 1:46.99.
